Treatment Spectrum

Earlobe correction.
A small repair, a clear result.

Earrings that get caught or jewellery that is too heavy can cause a piercing hole to tear — or even split the earlobe completely. And after downsizing an artificially stretched piercing (flesh tunnel), the earlobe often no longer looks pleasing.

In both cases, a small, almost painless surgical procedure under local anaesthesia achieves a cosmetically very good result. Earlobe correction is an individual private health service (IGeL) — we discuss the costs transparently in your consultation.

precise and gentle.
Treatment process

From consultation
to a new piercing

Every step takes place at our practice — performed by Dr. med. Michael Scherer.

Consultation

Assessment, explanation of the procedure and a transparent cost estimate — the correction is a self-pay service.

Procedure

Under local anaesthesia, the edges of the piercing hole are removed and the hole or tear is sutured closed.

Reconstruction

For heavily stretched piercings (flesh tunnels), part of the remaining tissue bridge is removed and the earlobe is reshaped.

Suture removal

The sutures are removed at our practice after about 14 days.

New piercing

Please wear no jewellery at this spot for several months — after that, a new hole can be pierced.

What we treat

What we
correct

The three most common situations our patients come to us with — select one for details.

Completely split earlobe

An earlobe split in two after jewellery was torn out.

Cause
Jewellery caught with force, splitting the earlobe completely.
Symptoms
The earlobe is divided, with a visible notch at its lower edge.
Treatment
The torn edges are freshened and fully sutured — the earlobe regains its closed shape.

Stretched piercing (flesh tunnel)

An overstretched earlobe after artificial stretching.

Cause
Artificially stretched piercings (flesh tunnels) usually do not shrink back to a pleasing shape, even after downsizing.
Symptoms
An overstretched earlobe with a clearly enlarged hole or sagging tissue.
Treatment
Plastic-reconstructive correction: partial removal of the tissue bridge and reshaping of the earlobe under local anaesthesia.

Torn piercing hole

A slit, downward-stretched piercing hole caused by ear jewellery.

Cause
Earrings getting caught, or wearing jewellery that is too heavy for too long — the hole tears and slits downwards.
Symptoms
A widened, elongated piercing hole; earrings sit crooked or fall out.
Treatment
The edges of the hole are removed and finely sutured under local anaesthesia — with a cosmetically very good result.
